"Secrets" published

Journal Entry: Mon May 5, 2008, 5:07 AM
Image Description

Finally in my hands! This is “Secrets”, the tale about birds and children which you can see in the gallery. It has been a long time since I signed the contract, but finally it’s published. I think it’s already available on-line. It has been published by Lothian (Australia) and it’s my first book as author and illustrator. The publishers have done a really great job with this book. They’ve taken care of absolutely every detail. Now I want to write more stories (well in fact I have to). It’s an incredible feeling being the author of the book as well the illustrator. I love it. I’m working on new stories, but I’m also illustrating texts from other people. Sometimes I still can’t believe I’m working on this. Not long ago I though of it like a kind of illusion. Well, however, good luck to every people out there who wants to do a career of this. It’s possible and it’s great.
Oh yes, the ISBN of secrets is: 978 0 7344 1041 2 If you live in Australia I think there’ll be no problem. If not, well, I’ve seen it’s for sale in some pages. I hope that it’ll be in amazon soon.

Russian Tales published

Russian Tales

Some people have asked me about this book. It’s published by Anaya (Spain) in February. This year Anaya has published again the huge compilation of Russian tales made for Afanasev. They’re four illustrated volumes. Mine is the fourth. It has a lot, really, a lot of illustrations. More than seventy small images, one for the title of each tale and eighteen full-page images. It took me a lot of time but I must recognize I’ve had total freedom to draw whatever I’ve wanted, so I like the book a lot. I’m not sure about the way to buy it out of Spain or South America, but however the ISBN of the book is : 987-84-667-6500-8. Thanks to everybody. I’ve been quite inactive here for some months. Sorry for all the messages I haven’t replied, but I read them all and I love every time I read someone has been touched for my work. Thanks.

Finished at last!!

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 9, 2007, 3:15 PM
Yes!! I can't believe it, I've finished the russian tales. All the russian tales. About eighty illustrations. Along with the other books. Ufff. I'm exhausted. The last moth has been madness. I just want a little time to do my own things and try new things. Well, I think next month will be more calm. I want to do one of two stories of my own. I have the ideas but I haven't had time till now. Well, too many complaints. It has been an incredible first year as professional, but I need some rest. Next week I'll be at Rome and I'm not going to do anything else than walk and talk and eat pasta. Kisses for all of you. You're an incredible support. Thanks.

Russia, oh Russia

Journal Entry: Fri Jun 15, 2007, 2:58 PM
Oh my God. It never ends!! I'm working in an endless book of russian tales. It has about a million of illustrations. I'm happy but busy. Busy as hell. And it's spring and it's wonderfully warm and everybody is on the streets. Everybody but me, I mean. Oh well, complaints complaints. I'm idiot. I like what I'm doing. I think it's going to be a good book. I'll submit some illustrations. Thank you all for your wonderful comments. I read all of them. Really. I love them. Ufff. I hope I survive to the next month.

Birdchildren are going to be published!!

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 29, 2007, 3:18 AM
Believe or not the tale about children and birds is going to be published by Lothian!. Last year in the book fair of Bologna I showed them my portfolio and they told me they'd like to see a story if possible. As some other editors had told me the same I did the tale about birds in the summer, with no hurry. Lothian was my first option because I love the Shaun Tan's books and they like strange stories not strictly for children I think (If you know Shaun Tan you know what I mean). I send the tale and they've offered me a contract. ¡For two books!. Now I have to do another one but I have a lot of time.
There will be some changes in two of the illustrations and they've changed the title which is going to be "Wonderful Things". I prefered "About birds and Children" but, well, it's ok. Uf, I'm so happy...and tired. I've just come back from Italy (book fair again) and I've talked so many people that I hardly remember. Well, that's all for now. Thanks to all of you for your words of encouraging. They have been very important to me.
